Waves Crash Down On Swamp Bats

June 14, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Ocean State Waves shut down the Keene Swamp Bats as three home runs, including a fourth inning grand slam powered them to a 7-0 victory over Keene.

The Waves got off to an explosive start with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning by first baseman Tim Lynch and catcher Chuckie Robinson to take the 2-0 lead after one inning.

The bottom of the fourth inning was the big inning that broke the game open for the Waves as they plated five runs. The first run came around on an RBI single with the bases loaded by left fielder Griffin Helms to extend the lead to 3-0. Then with one swing of the bat the Waves made it a 7-0 game off of the bat of Mike Corin hitting the grand slam over the left field fence.

That would be all for Swamp Bats starting pitcher Brian Stepniak, as he was taken out after allowing seven earned runs on seven hits through three and one third innings.

The Ocean State pitching would take over after that. Four pitchers combined for the six hit shutout of the Swamp Bats, including five shutout innings by starting pitcher Ryan Gray.

Keene was shut out for the fourth time this season and now falls to a record of 1-7.

The Swamp Bats have Monday off before traveling to play the Mystic Schooners on Tuesday.
