New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
New Bedford - The New Bedford Bay Sox would lose their fourth straight game last night in a final score of 2 to 0 against the first place Mystic Schooners at Paul Walsh Field.
Mystic starting pitcher Willie Rios (Maryland) was lights out in his 5.2 innings pitched. He would strike out six New Bedford batters, allowing only two hits and one walk. When he was relieved from his duties he had given up no runs.
Ryan Fredrick (Georgia Southern) recorded his second straight appearance with six strikeouts, but would receive the loss while giving up just one run in his 6.1 innings of work. Schooners hitters would get to Frederick for six total hits.
Mystic were able to put pressure on New Bedford catcher Garret Demers (AIC) all night. The Schooners successfully stole six bases on six attempts while Demers was in the game. Derek Jenkins (Seton Hall) and Aaron Hill (UConn) stole two bags apiece. CJ Moore (Wagner) and Jesse Berardi (St. Johns) would also both swipe a bag.
The offense for New Bedford in consecutive nights would have difficulty stringing together hits. Bay Sox bats would only manage three total hits. Aaron Huesman (Dayton) would knock a double to left field in the fifth inning. Manny Morris (Villanova) and Ted Shaw (Sacred Heart) both contributed singles for New Bedford.
Ryan Thomas (Marist) would come into the game with the Bay Sox threatening in the eighth. After three walks would load the bases, Thomas would come in and strikeout two in a row to get Mystic out of the jam.
Today's First Citizens' Player of the Game is awarded to Ryan Frederick for his efforts in the one run loss. This would be Fredrick's second appearance of the year and his first start of the season. For consecutive outings Fredrick would only allow one run while striking out six.
New Bedford is back in action tonight, Monday June 15th, as they will travel to Newport to play the Gulls. This will be the third matchup between these two teams. The season series is all even at one a piece.
