Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Dec. 31, 2009) - A second consecutive overtime victory sent the Milwaukee Wave into 2010 in style Thursday at the U.S. Cellular Arena.
Marco Terminesi wrapped up a hat trick with 1:30 expired in the extra period to give the Wave a 12-10 victory and a share of first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.
The Wave (4-2) led 8-2 early in the fourth quarter, before the Blast (4-2) reeled off four consecutive goals to take a 10-8 lead. Jonathan Greenfield, a former Wave player, had two of the goals, including one that tied the game.
But Greenfield also was whistled for a blue card with 1:06 left in regulation, and with the Wave's sixth attacker on, Josh Rife scored with 53 seconds remaining to force overtime. Rife also scored the overtime winner on Sunday in Monterrey.
Terminesi's roommate, Travis MacKenzie, set up the winning goal for his third assist of the day. With three goals and an assist, Terminesi now leads the MISL with 21 points.
"I think the victory in Monterrey helped us today," Tozer said of the 19-17 game Sunday. "We had the lead multiple times, gave it up, and then won the game in overtime.
"I couldn't be happier or more proud of what these guys have done."
Milwaukee trailed 2-0 at the half, but scored three goals in the third quarter. Kyt Selaidopoulos, Terminesi and then Ian Bennett put the Wave ahead, and Terminesi's second goal just 1:05 into the fourth quarter made it 8-2.
The Blast haven't won two straight championships without learning how to handle adversity, however. Three goals in a little more than three minutes tied the game, then Robbie Aristodemo put the Blast on top with 4:04 to go.
"If you fall asleep, they'll jump all over you, and that's what they did," Tozer said.
Marcel Feenstra made 13 saves for his second win of the year, and compiled his own highlight reel in the first half as he kept the Wave close.
Milwaukee visits Baltimore on Jan. 9 in its next action, then returns home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 against La Raza de Monterrey. Call 414-224-9283 for tickets or information.
