Chicago Mustangs News Release
Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Mustangs, proud members of the Major Arena Soccer League (www.MASLSoccer.com), lost game 2 of their playoff series to the Milwaukee wave 9-2 and then lost mini-game 3 2-1 in overtime.
Chicago got themselves into an early hole with back-to-back 2-minute penalties, the second coming right as the first penalty was expiring. Fortunately they were able to kill both penalties on some amazing saves by goalkeeper Jesus Flores. The Mustangs got on the board first with just under 2 minutes to go on a power play when "Wilo" Martinez fed Miguel Vaca ahead of the defender and Vaca flicked it past goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. Milwaukee would answer less than a minute later when Stefan St. Louis drew Flores out of the net on a breakaway and tapped it into the open net to tie it at 1.
Chicago re-gained the lead 2 minutes into the 2nd quarter on a sloppy Milwaukee Wave pass when forward "Wilo" Martinez intercepted the ball and fired one top-shelf from point blank range over goalkeeper Nick Vorberg's head. The Wave would end up taking their first lead of the night when Tony Walls booted one to the back of the net after the ball trickled off the fingertips of Flores. A minute later, Milwaukee would advance the lead on a breakaway when St. Louis fed Ian Bennett and he fired one across Flores to the far post to make it 4-2 which would end up being the score at the end of the half.
The 3rd quarter would be a very physical one but it wasn't until there was 3 minutes left in the quarter that a ball deflected off of the leg of "Chico" Parisotto and Milwaukee's Marcelo Fontana buried it into the back of the net to extend the Wave's lead to 5-2. Milwaukee would extend their lead to 6-2 on a nice setup from Marcio Leite to Walls. As the clock ticked down to 5 minutes, Milwaukee would add another tally when Walls slid across the boards and flipped one over the head of Flores to make the score 7-2. The goal gave Walls a hat-trick on the night. The Wave added to their impressive lead when Fontana would beat Flores again to the far post to extend the score 8-2 with 4:36 to go in regulation. Milwaukee looked like they were trying to steal all of the momentum going into the 3rd game when they added to their lead making it 9-2 to end regulation on a Victor Quiroz goal. In true Chicago vs. Milwaukee fashion, this one would be heading to a final mini-game, largely in part to the Tony Walls show.
Mini-game 3
Milwaukee continued their momentum into game 3 when 10 minutes in, Bennett hammered a deflection off of Flores home to take the 1-0 lead. The Mustangs answered back with 3:50 to go when Omar Santillan pulled the ball out of a cluttered mess in front of the net and found the back of the net to make it 1-1. This game would end up going to overtime which saw a ton of back-and-forth action until Bennett hammered home the game winning goal for Milwaukee off of another Flores deflection to send Milwaukee to the next round of the playoffs.
