
Wave Advance to MASL Central Divison Championship After Defeating Chicago

Your Six-Time Champion MKE Wave eliminated Chicago from the 2015 Major Arena Soccer League Ron Newman Cup Playoffs Saturday night by defeating the Mustangs in Game 2; (9-2) and Game 3; (2-1) in overtime at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
In Game 2 the Wave rolled passed the Mustangs with a final score of 9 to 2. It started out to be a back and fourth game in the first half, with Chicago scoring first and the Wave answering right back. At the end of the first half, the Wave had a 4-2 lead over the Mustangs, with goals coming from #18 Stefan St. Louis, #8 Bato Randoncic, #15 Tony Walls and #26 Ian Bennett.
The Wave were able to keep Chicago scoreless in the second half in Game 2, while the Wave added 5 more goals to their lead. 2 goals coming from #15 Tony Walls and #20 Marcelo Fontana and 1 goal from #23 Victor Quiroz.
With Chicago winning Game 1 and the Wave winning in Game 2, MKE forced the 15 minute Mini-Game 3.
9:35 into the game, the Wave were able to find the back of the net thanks to #26 Ian Bennett. But 2 minutes later, #11 Omar Santillan of the Chicago Mustangs scored the tying goal. With the score knotted up at 1 at the end of regulation of Game 3, we headed into a 15-minute Golden Goal overtime; first team to score wins the game. #26 Ian Bennett, unmarked in the corner, was able to turn, shoot and scored the game-winning goal, advancing the MKE Wave to the MASL Central Division Championship where they will the Missouri Comets, Thursday, March 12th.

"I think it's a big turning point for us as a team," said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "Chicago is the defending PASL Champions and they played with a lot of heart. They really wanted it. With that said, I can't say enough about our players and what they brought to the field. The guys had a lot of fight and determination in them tonight."

"Vorberg returned from injury tonight and his experience in goal was huge. He made some big saves against Chicago."

"Tony Walls has been great all season. He started the year as a defender and then we moved him to target forward and wow! He works hard, doesn't stop and gets better every game."

"Ian Bennett scored in Game 3 and also scored the overtime winner. Couldn't be prouder of him and a just a great all around team effort. We are looking forward to battling the Missouri Comets on Thursday."
On getting ready for the MASL Central Division Championship against Missouri...
"They're the champs. We've got a lot of respect for them but we don't fear them. We are going in there with an attitude that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I think our guys are excited for that challenge on Thursday."
