Milwaukee, Wis. - With the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) St. Louis Steamers franchise on the inactive list for the 2006-2007 season, The Milwaukee Wave capitalized on an opportunity to bolster its roster. According to Vice President of Soccer Operations and Head Coach Keith Tozer, the Wave selected five players during the MISL Dispersal Draft (St. Louis Steamers). The Detroit Ignition enjoyed its expansion status as it was awarded the first selection in the draft. With it, the Ignition made Jamar Beasley the first player selected.

Based on traded goalkeeper Brian Rowland, the Wave had the fifth overall pick in the first two rounds and selected Randy Soderman. An all-star defender for the Steamers last year, Soderman brings another proven performer to the Wave's defense. Soderman was a valuable part of the Steamers' success last year and should bring that same level of play to the Wave.

The second pick netted the Wave the 2005-2006 goalkeeper of the year in the form of Brett Phillips. "Any time you can add a player of Brett's talent, you seize the opportunity," says Tozer. With a record of 20-4 last year and a league low 4.65 goal against average, Philips brings impressive stats to the Wave.

Cam Weaver (third round - 18th overall), Joe Reiniger (fourth round - 24th overall) and Armando Teran (fifth round - 30th overall) round out the picks for the Wave. Reiniger, a former Wave great and crowd favorite, is sure to be welcomed back enthusiastically. Armando Teran's name might be familiar to fans here in Milwaukee as he competed on the Mexican National Futbol Rapido team in last year's All-Star game held in February. Cam Weaver impressed the Wave by leading the USL in goals scored for the Seattle Sounders.

"Randy, Brett, Cam, Joe and Armando were natural selections for us," says Tozer. "This draft was more about the evaluation of our needs and those players from St. Louis who best fit our system. The level of talent in St. Louis was impressive so we knew regardless of position, our top picks would have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot."

The Milwaukee Wave was established in 1984 as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association (AISA). In 2001, the Wave transitioned to being a successful member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Through the guidance of head coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, the Wave has won three league titles (1997-'98, '99-2000, 2000-'01), six regular season championships, and has made six championship series appearances.
