
Storm Owner Named to Hall of Fame

CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Storm offers its congratulations to team owner Mike Stanojevic on his well deserved induction into the Illinois State Soccer Hall of Fame and his Meritorious Service Award. Mr. Stanojevic along with 17 others are scheduled to receive their awards at the ISSA's 90th Anniversary Banquet, Saturday September 30th in Toyota Park located at 7000 S. Harlem in Bridgeview.
Born in the former Yugoslavia, Mike Stanojevic began his soccer career in 1956 as a player in a junior league Radnicki Obrenovac, where he played for the Junior Selection Team of Serbia until the age of 20. In 1960 he joined the oldest soccer club in Serbia, Belgrade Amature Sport Klub (B.A.S.K.), where he played until his move to the United States in 1967. His soccer career in Chicago included stops at Norwegian-American Sport Club, Hansa and Youths; however, his major contribution to Illinois soccer came in 1972 when he established the Serbian soccer club, United Serbs. He served as the teams First Player, team Captain and in 1980 he was elected as the teams Coach. During his time in this position, Mike led the United Serbs from the First Division to the Major Division of the Metropolitan League, eventually taking first place. In addition to these victories, the United Serbs advanced to the Semi-finals of the Illinois State Cup and won three Serbian tournaments in the U.S. and Canada. From 1987 to 2004 he served as Manger for United Serbs and presently serves as a board member. In 2004, Mike contributed to the professional landscape of Illinois soccer when he, along with others, established the Chicago Storm, where he still serves as a managing member today. In two short seasons, the Storm has gone from a fledgling franchise in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) to a playoff contender.
The Chicago Storm as an organization applauds the full efforts that Mr. Stanojevic has made to soccer in the state of Illinois. From the amateur levels to the professional he has furthered the sport of soccer in this state and we thank him.
The Chicago Storm is a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Chicago's professional indoor soccer team, plays its' home games at the all-new Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.
