Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Jan. 31, 2008) -- A new futsal academy at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells and the return of the Wave/Kohl's Football Kicking Camp highlight the offerings of the 2008 Milwaukee Wave Summer Soccer Camps.
Nearly 60 sessions of the area's most popular soccer camp will be offered at more then 30 sites, with options to fit all age groups and skill levels. Players and coaches from the four-time league champion Wave direct the instruction at every site, working directly with campers to improve technical and tactical skills, fitness and attitude. More than 4,000 campers attend every summer.
"I'm very excited about the upcoming Summer Camp program," said Keith Tozer, Wave head coach and vice president of soccer operations. "Our camps seem to get bigger and better every year. Our relationships with the clubs we work with, with our sponsors, with ODP and the soccer community in general have made this a very worthwhile endeavor for everyone."
Chula Vista is the site for the team futsal academy, June 30-July 2. Tozer, also the coach of the U.S. national futsal squad, will bring in his U.S. assistant coach Vava, members of the national team and other select Wave players for an intense weekend in the skills and tactics of futsal. The five-on-five indoor game favored around the world launched the careers of Wave stars Marcio Leite and Deco, as well as two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho.
"With futsal becoming a bigger part of the soccer family in the United States, coupled with the fact that we have many national team players on the Wave and I coach the national team, it seemed a natural fit to start a futsal academy," Tozer said.
Whitefish Bay High School's state-of-the-art FieldTurf facility hosts the second year of the Wave/Kohl's Kicking Football Kicking Camp. Soccer players who have shown an aptitude for booming the ball can try American football under the expert eye of Jamie and Andy Kohl, who have been running camps nationally for 10 years. Middle school-age students will receive a $100 discount on the one-day camp for the same top-quality instruction older kickers receive.
"We're always trying to add new options to our camp program," Tozer said. "Last year was our first punting and kicking camp with Kohl's Kicking, and we feel like it will continue to grow in the future."
