Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Coming off another dramatic overtime victory, the Milwaukee Wave (3-1 home / 2-0 road / 5-1 overall) will attempt to win its fifth consecutive Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) regular season contest this upcoming Friday, November 26, 7:30 PM when it battles the arch-rival Chicago Storm (4-2) at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL. It's the third of eight scheduled meetings between the clubs this season, with each team claiming victory on the other's home turf (Milwaukee with an 8-3 win in the 2004-05 season opener 10/23 at Chicago, the Storm with a 9-8 (OT) triumph in the Wave's home opener on 10/29). Fans interested in attending the contest should contact the Storm Office at 312-226-4625 regarding ticket information.
Despite being without Head Coach Keith Tozer and star players Greg Howes, Todd Dusosky, Johnny Torres, and Pat White (all on duty with the U.S. National Futsal Team at the FIFA World Championship in Chinese Taipei) the Wave was able to keep its current winning streak intact with an 8-7 (OT) win over the Monterrey Tigres this past Friday (11/19) at U.S. Cellular Arena. Midfielder Marcelo Fontana, who scored the OT game-winner in Milwaukee's previous outing v. Cleveland (6-5 (OT) win on 11/13 @ U.S. Cellular Arena) was once again the hero for the Blue and White as he redirected a Giuliano Oliviero end-board pass through Monterrey goalkeeper Aurelio Portes at 4:04 of the extra session to provide the margin of victory. The overtime was made possible by Fontana's first goal of the night, a sixth-attacker conversion to knot the score at seven with just 1:15 left in regulation. Including his game-winner on 11/12 @ Bal, Fontana has now tallied the Wave's last three GWGs.
Following Friday's game, Milwaukee will face another road challenge when it squares off with the St. Louis Steamers on Friday, December 3, 7:30 PM at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, MO. The Wave's next home match is Saturday, December 4 when Milwaukee entertains the Storm in a 6:05 PM match at U.S. Cellular Arena.
Saturday, December 4 will also be Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Medicine Center Work-Out with the Wave and Team Picture Card Night, with the first 5,000 fans receiving a Wave Team Picture Card courtesy of Froedtert. It's also the annual Teddy Bear Toss Game, with all fans encouraged to bring unused stuffed animals to toss on the field after the Wave scores its first goal. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to Toys for Tots.
Tickets for all Wave home games ($20, $16, $14, and $12) are available at the Wisconsin Center District (WCD) Box Office, located between U.S. Cellular Arena and the Milwaukee Theater at 510 W. Kilbourn Ave., all TicketMaster Outlets, at www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone charge at 414-276-4545. Wave Futsal Contingent Preparing for FIFA World Championship in Chinese Taipei
The U.S. National Futsal Team, coached by Wave Coach Keith Tozer and featuring Wave players Greg Howes, Todd Dusosky, Johnny Torres and Pat White is currently participating in the FIFA Futsal World Championship in Chinese Taipei. The MISL-dominated U.S. squad also includes: Sean Bowers and Steve Butcher (San Diego); Pat Morris, (Philadelphia); Jamar Beasley (Kansas City); John Ball (Cleveland); Andy Guastaferro (Chicago); and recently retired ex-Baltimore goalkeeper Scott Hileman. All but Torres, Butcher, Beasley, and Morris played for the U.S. team which qualified for the FIFA tournament by winning the CONCACAF title in Costa Rica this past summer. The U.S. squad departed November 14th and would return November 27th if it does not advance beyond first round pool play. Despite goals from Torres and Todd Dusosky, the U.S. dropped its opener to Italy (6-3) this past Sunday (11/21). The team is also scheduled to play Paraguay (11/23) and Japan (11/25) later this week. The top two teams from each of four 4-team groups will advance to the next round of pool play beginning November 28.
Futsal, the international version of indoor soccer, is a derivative of the outdoor game played with five players on each side (four field players and a goalkeeper) utilizing a limited-bounce ball on an open (wall-less) court slightly bigger than a basketball court. The U.S. Team has now qualified for four-of-five FIFA Futsal World Championships (1989, 1992, 1996, 2004).
Wave on Radio / Internet: All road games may be heard live on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word") with air time for each broadcast approximately 15 minutes prior to kick-off. All games may be heard live on the Wave website at www.milwaukeewave.com.
Upcoming Opponent: The Wave will be battling Chicago in the third of eight scheduled meetings between the clubs this season. Milwaukee defeated Chicago in the Storm's first-ever regular season game 8-3 at the UIC Pavilion on 10/23. Chicago returned the favor in Milwaukee's home opener on 10/29 by claiming a 9-8 (OT) victory over the Wave.
