Chicago (Tuesday, November 23, 2004) â After having a weekend off, the expansion Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) returns to action on Friday, November 26 when they will take on Central Division rival the Milwaukee Wave at the UIC Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. CT. This will be the very first televised home game in Chicago Storm history and can be seen on Comcast SportsNet with Storm play-by-play announcer Kenn Tomasch calling the action along with analyst David Moxom. The game will be the third installment of the I-94 rivalry that has developed early this season with each team bagging one win at the other's home opener. The "Yellow and Black" dropped an 8-3 result to the Wave in their inaugural game on October 23. The Storm returned the favor with a thrilling 9-8 overtime win at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee. This game can also be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net. The game will also be the first to be broadcast on radio as Univision Radio WRTO 1200 AM will bring all the action live in Spanish.
Education Appreciation Night: In efforts to show appreciation to all who are involved with education, the Storm organization will be offering student and faculty members the chance to take part in "Education Appreciation Night" this Friday, November 26. Any educational institution credentialed student, teacher, or faculty will receive half off game day tickets that have a face value of $12 and $15. This offer is only valid through the UIC Box Office. Each student and faculty member must present a school ID to receive the offer, one ticket per ID. Individual tickets are available and range in price from $8 to $25 and can be purchased by calling the Storm's front office (312) 226-GOAL (4625), Ticketmaster (312) 559-1212 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com. Fire Midfielder Drops in on the Storm: Chicago Fire midfielder and Haitian National Team player Alexander Boucicaut will be stopping by the UIC Pavilion this Friday, November 26 when the Storm take on the Milwaukee Wave at 7:30 p.m. CT in effort to provide relief to victims of the hurricanes that destroyed much of Haiti last month. The Boucicaut Hurricane Relief Fund will partner up with the Illinois Youth Soccer Association during the game to collect new and gently used soccer equipment and monetary donations to help rebuild the youth soccer programs throughout Haiti. Those who participate in donating will be entered into a raffle where they can win various Fire memorabilia. Boucicaut will also be signing autographs for all fans at halftime of the game. For more information on this appearance, call the Storm front office at (312) 226-4625.
Central Division Rival Weekend: This weekend, the Storm will face off against two conference foes and battle for a first place hold in the league's most competitive division. All of the action will get underway this Friday night at the UIC Pavilion when the "Yellow and Black" will look to snap Milwaukee's four-game winning streak when they tangle with the Wave at 7:30 p.m. CT. The two teams have faced each other twice this year with both teams winning one game each. Milwaukee's only loss of the season (5-1 record) came at the hands of the Storm. After their game with Milwaukee, the Storm will head down to St. Louis where they will take on the Steamers for the first time at the Savvis Center. The Storm and the Steamers are both only one game back with overall records of 4-2 coming into this weekend. The Central Division teams hold a combined record of 13-5 with the East teams registering a 9-10 mark and the West holding a 4-11 combined total.
Scoring Streaks: Storm midfielder Matthew Stewart will look to extend his scoring streak to five games this weekend against former team and I-94 rival Milwaukee Wave. The El Paso, Texas native tallied his fourth goal in as many games on Sunday, November 14, after the "Yellow and Black" defeated the Philadelphia KiXX 7-4 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Late in the third quarter, midfielder Novi Marojevic connected with Stewart who bagged his first goal of the game, putting the Storm up 6-3. Stewart also tallied one goal the previous night against the defending champion Baltimore Blast at the 1st Mariner Arena. With a little under two minutes to go in the third quarter, Storm defender Tijani Ayegbusi recorded his first assist of the season after he dished off to Stewart who found the back of the net, helping the Storm to a 3-1 victory over the Blast.
International Travel: Storm midfielder Andy Guastaferro and the U.S. Futsal National Team dropped their opening game for Group C at the FIFA Futsal World Championship Chinese Taipei 2004 to Italy by a final of 6-3. The U.S. will look to bounce back with a victory today when they face Paraguay. The game has concluded, but will be televised on delay at 9:00 p.m. CT on Galavision.
