Milwaukee Wave News Release

(Milwaukee, WI) Giuliano Oliviero's goal 3:32 into overtime provided the Milwaukee Wave with its fourth straight win as the Wave edged the San Diego Sockers 6-5 before 5,664 fans at U.S. Cellular Arena. Not only did the victory improve Milwaukee's overall record to a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) best 11-3, but it also preserved the Wave's undefeated streak at U.S. Cellular Arena where Milwaukee is now 7-0. Meanwhile, the Sockers had their own five-game winning streak stopped as San Diego fell to 8-8.

Todd Dusosky put Milwaukee on the board first at 4:18 of the first quarter when he converted a pass from Marcelo Fontana. The Sockers answered with a pair of goals from Kevin Legg (9:19) and Paul Wright (12:23), the latter scoring on a power play after a hand-ball penalty against Milwaukee goalkeeper Dan Green.

After a scoreless second quarter, Milwaukee tied it up on an own goal by Sockers defender David Beltran that was credited to Wave forward Greg Howes. San Diego regained the lead on a goal by Mauricio Alegre at 7:04, but Milwaukee evened the score again on a tally by Matt Schmidt at 11:09.

Todd Dusosky's second goal of the match just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter put Milwaukee up 4-3. However, Alegre answered with his second at 4:23 to it at 4-4. The Wave's Joe Reiniger scored on a restart blast at 6:46 to put Milwaukee on top 5-4, but San Diego responded again as Mariano Bollella scored off a lead feed from Paul Wright to even the count (5-5) at 11:59.

San Diego goalkeeper Victor Nogueira, who was making his first regular season appearance in Milwaukee since being traded to the Sockers this past off-season, made a great save on Chris Morman in the first minute of overtime to preserve the tie. However, Oliviero converted on a turning one-time blast from 30 feet after a long-header into the attacking zone by Troy Dusosky.

Green stopped 10-of-14 shots faced to improve his record to 6-1; Nogueira took the loss despite saving 17-of-23. Milwaukee is now 2-0 against San Diego this season, with game three of the four-game series set for January 10, 9:05 PM at the San Diego Sports Arena.

Meanwhile, the Wave returns to action this Sunday, January 4 when it travels to Mexico to take on the Monterrey Fury (1/4, 6:35 PM). Air time for the radio broadcast on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word") will be 6:15 PM. Milwaukee's next home game is Saturday, January 24, 6:05 PM when the Wave hosts the Cleveland Force at U.S.Cellular Arena.
