NEWARK, N.J. - The Milwaukee Wave's late-season swoon continued here Saturday afternoon, as they gave up the game's last five points in a 12-9 loss to the New Jersey Ironmen.

Marco Terminesi put the Wave on top 9-7 almost four minutes into the second half, when he converted a shootout chance. But Milwaukee (9-10) would not score again. Tiguinho put his team on top with a 3-pointer in the third, and then added some insurance with 1:52 to go.

Milwaukee tried to generate the tying score, as it had two weeks ago here before losing in overtime. But sixth attacker efforts could not force the equalizing goal, and Milwaukee fell to 1-5 since March 1. Unless the Wave can win at 3 p.m. CST Sunday at Chicago, they will finish below .500 for the first time since 1992-93.

The Wave also are 1-5 in games decided by three points or less.

Milwaukee fell behind 4-0 on Saturday before consecutive goals by Marcelo Fontana, Terminesi and Pernambuco - the last one a 3-pointer - gave the Wave a 7-0 lead. Former Wave defender Oral Bullen tied the game before halftime on a 3-pointer, finishing a backheel leave from Chile Farias.

Terminesi's five-point game gave him 49 for the season, second in the league behind New Jersey's Lucio Gonzaga. Pernambuco, who like Terminesi scored 17 points in March, now has 25 points for the season in just nine games.
