Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE (April 16, 2008) -- With rookies comprising one-third of their squad, the Wave knew they'd need contributions from many of those new players to have success this season.

Many made their mark, and on Wednesday forward Warren Ukah and defender Jonathan Santos were named to the MISL All-Rookie team.

Coaches, league media relations directors and members of the media voted on the squad.

"I think this year's corps of rookies was one of the best corps we've had at the Milwaukee Wave in the last 6 or 7 years, and I'm extremely happy that both Jonathan and Warren were recognized on the all-rookie team," said Wave Head Coach Keith Tozer.

Ukah, a native of Atlanta, joined the Wave early in the season and immediately made an impact as a powerful target forward. In 27 games, he racked up 14 goals and 11 assists for 39 points, fourth among rookies.

"Warren had a great rookie year, and he has the ability to be one of the top target players in the MISL," Tozer said.

Santos started the season with a hamstring injury, and was in the midfield when he recovered. But injuries necessitated a shuffle to the back, and the 23-year-old shined in that role. Santos had a hat trick against Orlando on March 9 and a magical goal against New Jersey on March 16, finishing the season with one 3-pointer, 8 2-pointers and four assists for 23 points. He also blocked 19 shots.

"Jonathan played great in the back as one of our best man markers, and he's also a threat to go forward," Tozer said.

Other members of the All-Rookie team are goalkeeper Jose Bontti (Monterrey), defender JP Rodrigues (Orlando), forward/midfielder Frederico Moojen (New Jersey) and forward/midfielder Ivan Medina (Monterrey). Rookie of the Year will be announced at a later date. The All-MISL teams will be released early next week.
