Milwaukee Wave News Release

The 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave had the, 'luck of the Irish' with them Sunday afternoon, as they were able to hang on to defeat the Dallas Sidekicks in an intense back and forth contest at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas Sunday afternoon.

Final Score: Milwaukee Wave 11, Dallas Sidekicks 9.

"One thing I can say about our last few games is that we definitely put on a good show," exclaimed Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Olivero. "We caught Dallas at a dangerous time. They are coming off an embarrassing home defeat and on top of it they made a coaching change. They showed the players that they are not scared to make moves and that you better show up and play. I strongly believe we got Dallas' best performance of the year tonight."

Milwaukee was shell shocked right from the beginning with Dallas' Yahir Romero scoring the first Sidekicks goal 32 seconds into the contest. That would be followed by two more Dallas goals minutes later from Esai Romero and Anthony Powell.

It wasn't until late in the first quarter that the Wave would wake up and string three goals together within the matter of just a couple of minutes. Those goals would come from Max Ferdinand, Andre Hayne and Derek Huffman.

"We were still in our beds a little bit there at the beginning," added Oliviero "We went up 9-7 in the second half and we're thinking we should be good, but low and behold 9-9; and then with a minute left we played our six attacker with the intent of not going into overtime. We needed those three points to stay up there in the standings."

Currently in the MASL East, Monterrey leads the way undefeated, 23-0 (66 points) with Milwaukee in second at 15-5 (44 points). Utica defeated Harrisburg Sunday and are 14-6 (42 points), they are at third. Kansas City, also victorious Sunday are 13-6 (42 points).

"We've got to look at the positives and remember that we've now won five in a row," added Oliviero. "Yes, we have lots to work on but we need to use this momentum and prepare for what is the most difficult part of our season."

The Milwaukee Wave wrap the regular season with a pair of games; the first at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, Friday, March 22 at 6:35pm CT against the MASL West Division leading San Diego Sockers; followed by a match in Monterrey, Mexico Sunday, March 24 at 4:35pm CT against the Flash at Arena Borregos.

"San Diego has won the last two championships and they are clearly going for a third," said Oliviero. "They are coming to secure first place in the West; but we need a result to get where we want to be; home field advantage in the first round. We know Monterrey is not catchable but moving forward this is a playoff game next Friday against the Sockers and while we are excited to play in front of our fans, we certainly need to do better than we did tonight."

Tickets are on sale now at MilwaukeeWave.com or at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena Box Office one hour prior to game time.
