Wave Loses Three in MISL Expansion Draft

(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave had three players selected from its active roster in the recent Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Expansion Draft that was conducted this past Monday (7/21). The draft was used to stock incoming franchises in St. Louis and Monterrey (Mexico) for the 2003-04 season.

Midfielder / defender Martin Dugas was the first player chosen among the eligible (unprotected) players from the established clubs. Dugas was selected by Monterrey, which also picked defender Sinisa Alebic with the third choice. Defender Jeremy Aldrich was the other active player chosen from the Wave's roster; he was chosen 16th by St. Louis.

"Whenever you lose veteran players such as Martin, Sinisa, and Jeremy it's a real blow to your organization," said Wave Head Coach / Vice-President of Soccer Operations Keith Tozer. "All three are fine players and fine individuals and it won't be easy to replace them."

The 31-year old Dugas spent the past two seasons with Milwaukee following five earlier campaigns with Edmonton and Detroit. He appeared in 75 regular season games for the Wave, recording 23 goals and 22 assists for 70 points. He also played in eight post-season contests, adding two goals and one assist for five points.

Alebic, who turns 34 in September, played three seasons with the Wave appearing in 88 regular season games. He scored 14 goals and had 10 assists for 42 points. Alebic also played in 13 playoff games, with a total of two goals for four points.

The 26-year old Aldrich, a current member of the Wave United outdoor squad, played in just one game during the 2002-03 campaign after signing with the Wave at mid-season. He tallied one assist in his only outing on March 22 at Philadelphia.

The Wave will begin its 20th season this upcoming October. Exact dates and times for the 2003-04 schedule should be released within the next few weeks when the MISL schedule is finalized.
