Milwaukee Wave News Release

(Milwaukee, WI) - The Milwaukee Wave have won 10 games in a row, the last of which gave them sole possession of first place in the MISL standings. The Wave has had a 10 game winning streak just two other times (97-98 and 99-00) and has reached 11 once (02-03) in the team's history. Now they look to extend their winning streak with two weekend games against Chicago to the longest in the team's history.

The Wave went 2-0 last week with big wins against Missouri and Baltimore. In the game at Missouri the Wave were able to use strong defense and goalkeeping to keep Missouri at bay, and with two goals each from Josh Rife, Marcelo Fontana, and Luan Oliveira the Wave cruised to an 18-6 win. On Saturday the Wave welcomed Baltimore to Milwaukee in teams vying for first place. Baltimore jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first, but in the second goals by Fabinho and Ian Bennett would tie the game at 4-4. The score would remain in place at halftime, but in the third Ian Bennett scored his second goal to put the Wave up 6-4, but another Blast score tied it heading into the fourth. The teams would exchange goals in the fourth, and no team could get another in regulation, and the team's headed into overtime. About 40 seconds into the golden goal overtime Josh Rife scored, giving the Wave a 10-8 victory.

Before Baltimore headed to Milwaukee, they faced off against Chicago, and similar to early in the year, the Soul would take care of the Blast at home. A strong second half, led by two goals from Carlos Farias, helped give Chicago a 13-8 win.

The two teams have played twice already, with the Wave coming out on top in both contests. In the first game Chicago came out with a strong first half, getting out to an early 5-0 lead. In the third quarter the Wave turned things around as goals by Tom Oatley, Nick Perera, and Luan Oliveira put Milwaukee up 6-5 at the end of the third. Oliveira, would lead off the fourth with another goal, and the Wave added three more in the quarter to take down Chicago 14-9.

In the second matchup the Wave used and all-around team effort to defeat the Soul 9-2. Nick Vorberg had a great performance to keep Chicago's scoring at a minimum. Goals by Luan Oliveira, Hewerton, Marcio Leite, and Joe Hammes, would propel the Wave to another win over Chicago.

For Friday's game the Wave will be taking a fan bus down to Chicago. For $25 Wave fans will receive one ticket to the game and a spot on the bus.

On Saturday, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (http://www.cff.org/) is the BMO Harris Bank Jersey Program charity for the game. The game will be sponsored by Guardian Credit Union and WISN 12. Also, a special Chipotle dinner and a game package is available for Saturday's game. It includes four burritos, sodas, and game tickets.
