Chicago Soul Weekend Preview

January 17, 2013 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Chicago Soul FC News Release

The Chicago Soul (6-9) will take on the challenge of three games in a span of four days this week. First, the squad will host the MISL defending champion and border rival, Milwaukee Wave, on Friday night at the Sears Centre Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT. The Wave will then return the favor when they host the Soul in Milwaukee Saturday night. The teams will kickoff at the U.S. Cellular Arena at 6:00 p.m. CT. The Soul will take a break on Sunday and return to action on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day when they host the Wichita Wings at 2:30 p.m. CT.

On the Radar

The spotlight continues to follow Carlos Farias after his six-point performance that led the Soul to a 13-8 victory over the Baltimore Blast last Friday. Farias had one assist and two goals, including a game-determining 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter that allowed the Soul to pull away and hand the Blast their third loss of the season. Farias, who now has 33 points on the season, received league honors earlier this week when he was named to the MISL Team of the Week.

Although Jeff Richey's saving streak came to an end last Friday, the veteran goalkeeper still managed to record 28 saves on 32 shots, earning him a total of 73 saves over the past two games.

Carlos Muñoz continues to lead the Soul in scoring with 40 points, ranking sixth in the league. Farias, Bato Radoncic and Matthew Stewart have also made their way onto MISL's Top 25 with 33, 31 and 24 points, respectively.

The Competition

The Wave have extended their winning streak to ten games, putting them at the top of the MISL standings for the first time this season. The Wave, who currently hold an 11-2 overall record, are coming off of a thrilling 10-8 overtime victory over the Blast last Saturday. MISL Player of the Week Josh Rife scored the game-winner that allowed Milwaukee to get past Baltimore for the win and the No. 1 spot.

The Wings (6-8) are currently competing against the Soul for the fourth spot in league standings. With both teams vying for playoff position, Monday's showdown is sure to spark some intensity. The Wings most recently faced their cross-state rivals, Missouri Comets. After picking up a 24-11 loss to the Comets in Missouri, the Wings retaliated with a 12-11 victory in Wichita one week later. The Wings will head to Rochester next to face the Lancers on Friday before arriving to Chicago for Monday's battle with the Soul.
