Soul set out for redemption in Baltimore
March 8, 2013 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Chicago Soul FC News Release
The Chicago Soul will look to redeem themselves against the Baltimore Blast in Game 2 of the 2013 MISL Semifinals on Saturday to stay alive in the playoffs and advance to the final round. The Soul will enter the match at a disadvantage after dropping to the Blast 22-13 on Tuesday night in Chicago, and face quite a challenge as they head to Baltimore for their Saturday night clash at the 1st Mariner Arena, where the Blast are known to dominate. The top-seeded squad finished the regular season going 12-1 at home. Should the Soul lose, they will be eliminated from the playoffs and the Blast will head to the championship series. Saturday's kickoff is set for 6:35 p.m. CT.
On the Radar
Carlos "Chile" Farias leads the Soul with 81 points, while Carlos Muñoz ranks second on the team with 68 points. Muñoz recorded a hat trick on Tuesday against the Blast, finishing with six points. Chicago will continue to turn to Farias and Muñoz for an offensive spark against Baltimore.
Missing In Action
The Soul will continue to miss the presence of defenders Tijani Ayegbusi (suspension) and Eric Lukin (injury). The squad will also have to compensate for the loss of their captain, Matthew Stewart, who sustained a knee injury during Tuesday's game and was carried off the field. Stewart will be out until further notice.
The Competition
The Blast proved to be too much for the Soul on Tuesday as they went on a scoring rampage in the second half to pull away for the 22-13 victory after leading just 8-6 at the half. Baltimore's Adauto Neto and Lucas Roque each had a hat trick, while Tony Donatelli, Lucio Gonzaga, Machel Millwood, and Ptah Myers each contributed with a goal.
Baltimore is led by Millwood and Gonzaga, who hold 61 and 60 points, respectively. Neto is behind them with 53 points, while Max Ferdinand and Mike Lookingland have 49 points each.
William Vanzela and Myers were recently named MISL Players of the Month for February. Vanzela received Goalkeeper of the Month honors after going a perfect 5-0 with an 8.80 goals-against average. Meanwhile, Myers was honored as the Defensive Player of the Month for recording at least a point in each game in February while finishing with 21 points in five games.
