Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Tuesday, April 5, 2005) â The Milwaukee Wave announced the kick-off challenge of the 16th Annual Milwaukee Labor Council's Health and Hygiene Drive for the United Way this Friday, April 8 at the Wave versus Philadelphia KiXX game, 7 p.m. at "The Cell," U.S. Cellular Arena.
The Health & Hygiene drive is a two-month project conducted by the Milwaukee Labor Council as part of the United Way's commitment to low-income families depending on their Safety Net services. Last year, the Milwaukee Labor Council collected more than $100,000 worth of health and hygiene products for the cause, benefiting more than 20 shelters in the Metro-Milwaukee area. The Milwaukee Wave kick-off challenge is part of this year's initiative to help increase donated items by five percent.
"We're proud to be a part of the 2005 Health & Hygiene Drive to aid our community," said chief operating officer Mike Lafferty. "I challenge all of our fans to bring in a combined total of at least 300 health and hygiene items to benefit people in the greater Milwaukee area."
At half-time, the Milwaukee Wave will award the fan bringing the most health and hygiene products with four tickets to the home opener of the Wave United Festival Soccer Tour 2005 at Uihlein Soccer Park on Saturday, June 25 at 1 p.m.
"More than one quarter of our funded programs depends on health and hygiene products for low-income families in the Metro-Milwaukee area," said Sue Dragisic, president of the United Way. "We thank the Milwaukee Labor Council and Milwaukee Wave for their support of this important initiative."
Examples of new and unused health & hygiene products include the following items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, baby formula or diapers, soap, facial tissue and toilet paper.
