GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH
Jim Larkin, Cleveland Force
Jim Larkin's workmanlike March resulted in a 4-1 record, 5.27 goals against average, and an impressive .764 save percentage (which led the league). In his four victories, the 6-foot-3 goalkeeper posted a remarkable .782 save percentage. Larkin, who notched three 19-save performances during his all-around best month of 2004-05, was named Goalkeeper of the Week on March 21, and is a four-time winner of that award this season. This is the second MISL Goalkeeper of the Month of the 29-year-old, Toronto native's career. For the season, Larkin is fourth in the MISL with a 5.17 goals against average, second with a .743 save percentage, and the league-leader with 424 saves.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Genoni Martinez, Cleveland Force
Genoni Martinez helped spearhead Cleveland's March surge, recording five goals and 11 points in five games. He also added 12 blocks. The two-time defending MISL Defender of the Year kicked off his month by recording five goals, seven points, and five blocks in wins over Baltimore (7-5 on 3/11) and Chicago (10-6 on 3/13). He notched four assists and seven blocks over his final three games of the month. The 30-year-old native of Mexico City was named Defensive Player of the Week two consecutive weeks (March 14 and 21), and has three such awards this season. The seven-year veteran of the League wins his first Defensive Player of the Month this season, having won it twice in 2003-04. Martinez has scored 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) and blocked 24 shots in only 13 games since joining the Force in mid-February. Cleveland is 9-4 since adding Martinez to its defense.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
John Ball, Cleveland Force
Force captain John Ball registered nine goals and four assists for a team-high 13 points in five games during the month of March. The 32-year-old forward scored hat tricks in consecutive games on March 11 and 13, and scored at least three points in four of his five March outings. Ball, a former defender, is now third in the MISL with 50 points, and tied for fourth with 24 assists. He registered the 450th point of his career in a 5-4 win over Chicago on March 19. The product of Southern Connecticut State University was named Offensive Player of the Week on March 14 and 21. This is the first Player of the Month Award for Ball in his ten-year professional indoor soccer career.
