Wave getting ready for MISL All-Star weekend
February 24, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) The Milwaukee Wave wrapped up an impressive "first half" of the 2003-04 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) regular season schedule by defeating the Philadelphia Kixx 8-3 Sunday (2/22) at Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA. Forward Greg Howes registered his third four-goal outing of the season to spark the offense while goalkeeper Dan Green anchored the defense with seven saves. The win enabled Milwaukee to go into the MISL All-Star break with a league best record of 19-7 putting the Wave eight games in front of Kansas City (12-16), and eight-and-one-half games ahead of St. Louis (10-15) in the MISL Central Division standings. The Wave's magic number for clinching the division title is two; that is, any combination of two Wave victories and / or two Kansas City or St. Louis losses will clinch the division title for Milwaukee**
**Milwaukee has already clinched the tie-breaker with St. Louis.

Wave Notes: *The Wave is now 115-39 (.747) in its last 154 regular and post-season outings.
*The Wave's back-to-back home losses to KC on 2/5 and Phi on 2/8 were the first consecutive home losses for Milwaukee since it dropped its first two home games of the 2000-01 season. Prior to that, the Wave had not lost consecutive home games since the 1994-95 campaign.
*The 12/31 contest v. Monterrey was Coach Keith Tozer's 500th game as coach of the Wave. Now in his 12th season with Milwaukee, Tozer is just the third coach in North American indoor soccer history to guide one team for as many games. Only Kenny Cooper (751 games with Baltimore) and Ron Newman (701 games with San Diego) have coached more games with a single franchise.
*Assistant Coach Steve Morris made his professional head coaching debut on 12/6 @ Bal. He stepped in for Keith Tozer, who was coaching the U.S. Futsal Team in Anaheim, CA.
*Milwaukee's 9-8 (OT) loss on 12/6 @ Bal broke a five-game overtime winning streak for the Wave dating back to the 2001-02 campaign. Milwaukee was 4-0 in extra-session games last year and 1-1 the year before.
*The Wave's 6-5 (2OT) win on 2/14 v. Dal improved the Wave's overtime record to 2-2 this season, and 26-31 all-time including 19-11 at home. It was eighth double OT game in team history â the Wave is 3-5 in such contests (3-1 at home).
*The 15 goals on 11/14 v. KC is the fourth highest total in team history. The Wave team record for most goals in a contest is 18, set on 12/6/98 v. Cle.
*Michael King's goal on 2/8 v. Phi was the 668th of his career moving him past Andy Chapman into sixth place on the all-time indoor soccer list of goal scorers. Cleveland's Hector Marinaro is the all-time leader with 1215.
*Troy Dusosky and Marcelo Fontana each scored a goal to record the 150th point of their respective careers (regular season) in Milwaukee's 6-2 win over Monterrey on 12/31 @ Mil.
*The Wave's "Twin Tandem" - Todd and Troy Dusosky - has now combined for 288 goals (Todd 199 + Troy 89) and 313
assists (Todd 244 + Troy 69) for 601 points (Todd 443 + Troy 158), good for tenth on the all-time indoor soccer brothers scoring list (see below). The Dusoskys (Todd 394 + Troy 69 = 463) are also the highest scoring brother pair in Wave history ahead of the White brothers (Pat 165 + Erik 9 = 174).
All-Time North American Indoor Soccer Brothers Scoring List** (thru 2/22/04)

10. Todd (443) + Troy (158) Dusosky = 601
11. Michael (503) + David (31) Richardson = 534
*Joe Reiniger has tallied at least one point in 15-of-23 games so far this season and 346-of-367 career NPSL / MISL regular season contests. Reiniger still holds the league's second longest scoring streak at 105 straight games (ended on 3/17/02).
*Greg Howes current indoor consecutive games played streak is currently 151 straight (regular season and playoffs). It's the Wave's longest active streak, and the third longest streak in team history following Michael King (161) and current Wave Assistant Coach Steve Morris (155). Howes also has four hat-tricks so far this season, which is two short of the team record (six) set by Joe Reiniger during the 2000-01 season.
*Goalkeeper Dan Green set a personal record by not allowing any goals in the Wave's 7-1 victory over St. Louis on 1/31 at U.S. Cellular Arena. The 31-year old Waukesha, WI native stopped all six shots that he faced in the contest; however, the Steamers scored while he was in the penalty box. Green's scoreless streak eventually ended at 78:13 on 2/8 v. Phi.

Last Week's Recap:
2/20 @ Dallas Sidekicks 4, Wave 3 Attendance â 5,992
Shaun David's goal just nine seconds into the fourth quarter broke a 3-3 tie and stood up as the game-winner as the Dallas Sidekicks to a 4-3 win over the Wave Friday night (2/20) at Reunion Arena in Dallas, TX. The win enabled the Sidekicks to even the season series at one game apiece; it was also Dallas' first win over Milwaukee in eight lifetime meetings against the Wave.
The Sidekicks initially took a 2-0 lead on first quarter goals by Mark Rowland (8:37) and Martin Dugas (12:22). The Wave responded with second quarter goals from Leighton O'Brien (6:58) and Troy Dusosky (8:15) to even the score at 2-2 before halftime. Martin Nash's power play goal at 9:58 of the third quarter put Dallas on top 3-2, but Chris Morman answered for Milwaukee off a great feed from Michael King at 13:01 to tie it up at 3-3.
After David's goal early in the fourth quarter made it 4-3, the Wave nearly manufactured the tying goal on several occasions down the stretch. Goalkeeper D.J. Horvath turned out to be the hero for Dallas, as he made two spectacular saves to hold off the Wave while Milwaukee was utilizing an extra attacker during the last three minutes of the contest. Horvath stopped 5-of-8 shots faced to record the win while Wave âkeeper Dan Green suffered the loss despite a fine performance in which he stopped 14-of-18. The three goals scored by the Wave was a season low for Keith Tozer's team.
2/22 @ Philadelphia: Wave 8, Kixx3 Attendance â 4,768
Greg Howes scored four goals while teammate Leighton O'Brien added a hat trick as Milwaukee blitzed the Philadelphia Kixx 8-3 Sunday (2/22) at Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA. The Wave victory broke a five-game losing streak to the Kixx as Milwaukee defeated Philadelphia for the first time in three meetings during the 2003-04 campaign.
Howes began his scoring barrage just 28 seconds into the match when he intercepted an outlet pass from Kixx goalkeeper Peter Pappas and blasted a shot past the âkeeper from 40 feet away. O'Brien added Milwaukee next two goals (sandwiched around a goal by Philadelphia's Kevin Sloan) to account for the rest of the Wave's first half scoring.
Although Philadelphia closed out the second quarter with a pair of goals to knot the score at 3-3, Howes quickly put Milwaukee back in front with his second of the contest at 2:12 of the third period. That tally started a five goal run for the Wave, highlighted by O'Brien's third of the match (5:48 of the third quarter) and two more by Howes (9:36 of the third, 10:26 of the fourth).
Wave goalkeeper Dan Green had another fine outing as he saved 7-of-10 shots faced to win his 11th-in-14 decisions. Pappas stopped just 9-of-16 in dropping his 7th-in-22 verdicts.
