THE SKINNY:
Milwaukee play host to the Baltimore Blast on Jan. 9 after traveling to Baltimore on Jan. 8. The Wave are coming off an 8-13 defeat to the Missouri Comets on Dec. 31, which was Milwaukee's first home loss since Jan. 23 of last season. Missouri was led by Byron Alvarez with a game-high three goals and seven points. The Wave were playing from behind for most of the game and had several chances to net a game winning goal, before Missouri's Jamar Beasley scored a three-point sixth attacker goal with 12 seconds left in the game. Wave's Marco Terminesi led the team with two 2-point goals with two blocks.
The Wave is looking to take sole possession of first place after the back-to-back games with the Blast. Milwaukee's early success is credited to its well balanced attack. The offense is averaging just over 13 goals a game, and is lead by Terminesi with 19 points. Terminesi is followed by Hewerton with 14 points and 13 points by Giuliano Oliviero. The Wave defense is holding opponents under double digits in four of six games, and is led by goalkeeper Nick Vorberg.
Nick Vorberg and Baltimore's Sagu was named Goalkeeper of the Month. Vorberg and Sagu posted nearly identical stats for the month of December, both going 3-1 and playing nearly every second of the four games. Blast goalkeeper Sagu allowed 14 goals (three three-point goals and 11 two-point goals) for a total of 31 points and Wave goalkeeper Vorberg allowed 15 goals (one three-point goal and 14 two-point goals) for 31 points.
Vorberg has only allowed 8.56 points per game and leads the league with a .831 save percentage overall.
