THE SKINNY:

No disrespect to Monterrey, Rockford or Philadelphia, but this is the game the Wave have been waiting for - a chance to test themselves against two-time defending champions Baltimore. While the teams were in different leagues last year, the Wave retooled their roster and are starting to see results. Milwaukee leads the MISL in scoring and is tied with Baltimore for fewest points allowed. The Wave are second in penalty kills and tied for first in power plays, plus have the league's only three shorthanded goals.

Baltimore has won 22 of its last 27 matches dating to the 2008 playoffs, when the Blast swept Milwaukee in the semifinals and went on to the 2008 MISL crown. Lucio Gonzaga has three hat tricks in four games for 16 points, and lanky forward Machel Millwood is right behind with 15. Stalwart keeper Sagu missed last Sunday's game at Rockford, but backup Dave Kern surrendered only four goals in the 10-8 victory.

WAVE MILESTONE WATCH:

Brett Wiesner: 100 games played (94)

Giuliano Oliviero: 1,000 career points (984)

UPCOMING WAVE SCHEDULE:

Saturday, Jan. 9: @ Baltimore Blast, 6:35 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 10: vs. La Raza de Monterrey, 2 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 16: @ Rockford Rampage, 7 p.m.
