Milwaukee Wave News Release
CLEVELAND (Saturday, April 2, 2005) â Before a crowd of 3,839, Milwaukee increased its season record to 21-12 at the Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein Convocation Center in Cleveland. The Wave defeated the Force tonight, 5-2. Milwaukee and Cleveland will meet two more time this season, on April 17 and 23.
The game began with a stellar defensive match-up. Late in the first quarter, Milwaukee was able to break past Force goalkeeper Jim Larkin. Marcelo Fontana intercepted the ball and sent a long pass to Greg Howes (14:03), who kicked a low bouncer into the net for the first goal of the match.
Cleveland quickly tied things up in the second period, as Chris Handsor found Antonio Sutton (0:10) for the goal past Wave keeper Nick Vorberg. Following a strategic time-out, Milwaukee came out to score two goals in a row. Matt Schmidt blasted a long, forceful shot at 12:33, and 35 seconds later, Howes found Lovelace Ackah for another Wave goal to wrap up the first half.
The second half got started with a short-hand goal from Cleveland's Gary DePalma. At 28 seconds, DePalma was able to take the shot past midfielder Ricardinho as Vorberg came out leaving the net open. Nevertheless, Milwaukee quickly responded with a pair of goals. Ackah sent a low bouncer inside the left post at four minutes into the third period of play. Shortly after, Howes scored his second goal of the evening (6:56).
With less than six minutes left in the game, Cleveland entered Aaron Susi as the sixth attacker. However, the Wave and Force remained scoreless in the fourth quarter. Milwaukee maintained the three-goal lead to defeat the Force, 5-2.
