Philadelphia Defeats Steamers 7-3 at Savvis Center

ST. LOUIS, April 2, 2005 - The Philadelphia Kixx traveled to St. Louis on Saturday night and defeated the Steamers by the score of 7-3. The loss drops St. Louis to 18-16 on the season and the Kixx improve to 20-14. The Steamers remain tied for third with Cleveland and are two games ahead of Chicago for the fourth and final playoff spot in the MISL standings.

The Kixx opened the scoring early in the first quarter. Don D'Ambra scored on a long pass from Goran Vasic at 1:00 of the session, which was the only goal of the quarter. Philadelphia went up 2-0 at 1:30 of the second quarter when Jeremy Aldrich beat Steamers' goalkeeper Brett Phillips. St. Louis cut the lead in half when Phillips fed Mariano Bollella in the middle of the field and Bollella beat goalkeeper Peter Pappas to make the score 2-1. Philadelphia responded when Joel Shanker scored and Vasic notched his second assist of the game. The Kixx led at the half, 3-1.

Marco Lopez registered a goal at 2:46 of the third quarter when Joe Reiniger passed across the box on a re-start opportunity. Philadelphia came back to increase their lead by two again when D'Ambra scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Morris, who recorded his second assist. Reiniger scored a penalty kick goal at 10:39 of the third quarter after Jeff DiMaria was taken down in the penalty box by D'Ambra to make the score 4-3. The Kixx responded once again in the third quarter when Dan Antoniuk notched a goal with 13 seconds remaining with Morris picking up his third assist of the game and Philadelphia led 5-3 going into the fourth quarter.

Reiniger replaced Phillips for the sixth attacker with over two minutes remaining in the final quarter. The Steamers pressured the Philadelphia goal but could not find the back of the net. The Kixx would end up scoring two goals versus the sixth attacker by Ze Roberto and Kevin Sloan and went on to win 7-3.

St. Louis will travel to Chicago on Sunday evening to take on the Storm at 7 p.m., which can be heard on 590-KFNS. The Steamers will travel to Chicago again on Saturday April 9 when the two teams face-off at 7 p.m., which can be seen live on KPLR-TV. St. Louis' next home game is on Sunday, April 10 at 6:05 p.m.
