Milwaukee Wave News Release

MILWAUKEE (March 29, 2009) - The Milwaukee Wave entered Sunday's contest against the New Jersey Ironmen with an outside chance to win the inaugural Xtreme Soccer League crown. But despite a raucous crowd of 8,272 at the U.S. Cellular Arena behind them, the Wave lost 15-14 in their final home game. With that Wave loss, the Detroit Ignition clinched the XSL title.

Milwaukee got off to an encouraging start when Travis MacKenzie found Dino Delevski within the first two minutes to take the 2-0 lead. But the Ironmen found a way to quiet the crowd late in the first quarter, scoring three times in 47 seconds on either side of the quarter break to lead 7-2.

The Wave (9-9) fought back to 9-6 at the half, and then Chad Burt closed the gap to one point early in the third quarter on a full volley at the top of the penalty area.

Milwaukee could never climb in front, however. Goals by Marco Terminesi and then Brett Wiesner in the fourth period brought the Wave to 15-14, and Troy Dusosky entered as the sixth attacker with 1:58 remaining. There were opportunities, but nothing could find its way past Ironmen keeper Brett Phillips.

Wiesner and Terminesi each scored twice; Terminesi now has 44 points to pass Detroit's Ryan Mack for second in the XSL scoring race. Adauto Neto, who has played at an MVP level for the Ironmen over the last two months, had two goals and two assists.

Even though their quest for a fifth title is over, the Wave still have two more games left before season's end. They will travel to New Jersey for a rematch on Saturday afternoon, and then take on the Chicago Storm the following day.
