(Southfield, Mich., - March 29, 2009) - A one-point loss by the Milwaukee Wave this afternoon clinched the first Xtreme Soccer League Championship for the Detroit Ignition (11-7). The Ignition finished their first two seasons with the league's regular season title, but this is the first time the team has clinched the overall league championship.

"I'm so happy, this was three years in the making for our guys," Ignition Head Coach Matt Johnson said. "This was a team that got along really well and worked hard for each other. It's a perfect example of how the team is more important than its individual players."

Immediately following the Ignition's final home game on Friday, April 3, an on-field presentation will be made to celebrate the team's first championship. Friday's game kicks off at 7:35 pm at Compuware Arena against the Chicago Storm (7-11).

The Detroit Ignition is a charter member of the Xtreme Soccer League, and begins the team's third season in December 2008 after completing the 2007-08 season as regular-season champions of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
