Milwaukee Wave News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (March 8, 2009) - As last week in Chicago, the Milwaukee Wave took a lead and shut out the Chicago Storm in the first half. This Sunday's second half, however, was quite different.

The Storm racked up 19 points, their season best, and pulled away late for a 19-10 victory that brought the Wave (8-6) back to the pack in the Xtreme Soccer League.

Goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin, signed this week to replace the injured Jeff Richey, not only stopped 12 shots but picked up two assists as the Storm poured it on in the fourth period.

Milwaukee's Giuliano Oliviero put the Wave on top with a pair of power-play goals, one in the second quarter and another 13 seconds into the third quarter. But down 4-0, the Storm cranked up the offense and never stopped.

Two clutch goals by the Storm's active midfield put the game away. With the Storm holding a 12-10 lead, Andy Rosenband sprinted out on a breakaway, made a nice cut against sliding Milwaukee keeper Nick Vorberg, then chased down the ball and knocked it into the empty net with 5:58 to go.

Chicago took a penalty with 4:35 left, and with the Wave already 3-for-3 on power plays, they stood a good chance to draw within one score. But after the Wave's Troy Dusosky added to the advantage as the sixth attacker, Ian Bennett sprinted ahead of the pack down the right flank after a takeaway and slid a 3-pointer past the retreating Dusosky for a 17-10 margin. Chris Cerroni added another score with under 30 seconds left for the final margin.

Oliviero finished with five points and Pernambuco contributed a goal and an assist. Dino Delevski scored his first Wave point, on a power play assist to Pernambuco.

The Wave return home Sunday for the first time in three weeks, taking on the Detroit Ignition at 2 p.m. It's the annual Green Jersey Auction for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and Olympic gymnast Chellsie Memmel visits for the Parade of Champions.
