Weekend Recap

The Hawks picked up three of four possible points during a road weekend against Western Conference opponents. Friday in Lincoln, Mark Naclerio's power play goal with 2:38 remaining nudged Waterloo past the Stars 4-3. Saturday, the Sioux Falls Stampede recovered from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to edge the Hawks 3-2 in a shootout. Jay Williams' 42 saves represented a new career-best in USHL competition. His previous high was 41 stops in another 3-2 shootout loss on February 19th versus the Green Bay Gamblers.

Cameranesi Kick Starts the Offense

Tony Cameranesi recorded his first USHL point with a first period goal Friday in Lincoln. After adding an assist on the game-winner, the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect doubled his point total Saturday, contributing another goal and assist against Sioux Falls. Cameranesi is now tied with Taylor Cammarata for the team lead with four points. The Hawks selected Cameranesi in the fifth round of the 2010 USHL Entry Draft.

Penalty Time in Check

After accumulating 33 penalty minutes in the season opener against the Omaha Lancers, the Black Hawks limited their time in the sin bin to six minutes against the Stars Friday and ten versus Sioux Falls Saturday. Waterloo opponents have had the third fewest power plays (nine) so far this season. Last winter, the Hawks averaged 19.8 penalty minutes per game, fifth most in the USHL.

Williams Takes the Lead

Goaltender Jay Williams has played every minute of the 2011-2012 season in the Black Hawks crease. He leads all USHL goalies with 97 saves. The McLean, Virginia, native is also near the top of several other significant goaltending categories early in the season. At 1.95, his goals-against average is fifth in the league. Williams' 94.2% save percentage also ranks fifth.

Will Eight Be Enough'

Friday and Saturday, the Black Hawks play the first of eight games against respective northeast Iowa rivals the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The eight contests will be the most against Cedar Rapids in the regular season since 2007-2008 and the most versus Dubuque since 1985-1986. Last winter, the Hawks were 4-3-0 against Dubuque and 2-4-1 matched up against the RoughRiders.
