Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Siemer Strong in the Third

Four of five goals which John Siemer has scored since joining the Waterloo Black Hawks late last month have come in the third period. That includes a tally with less than five minutes to play Friday in Indianapolis and two late goals to tie the matchup Saturday in Youngstown. With the pair of goals against the Phantoms, Siemer became the sixth different Black Hawk to score two goals in a game this season. No one has done it twice.

Picking Up A Point

Following a nine-game winless streak, the Black Hawks now have a standings point from four of the last five contests, posting a 2-1-2 record. Back-to-back overtime games last weekend mark the third occasion this year that the Hawks have played beyond 60 minutes in consecutive contests. All seven overtime games have been played against Eastern Conference opponents.

Hill Sets Season High

The 35 penalty minutes charged to Jamie Hill Saturday is the most to a single player during one game in the USHL this season. Hill was in the midst of a melee which involved all ten skaters on the ice, leading to 165 of the 183 penalty minutes in the game. Prior to Saturday's action, Hill had just 40 penalty minutes in his first 31 appearances of the season.

One Last Losing Streak

The Hawks ended a nine-game winless streak and a ten-game road skid with a victory against the Indiana Ice at Pepsi Coliseum on January 12th. One losing streak which persists is against the USHL's Western Conference. The Hawks have gone eight-in-a-row without a win versus the West since topping Tri City 4-1 on November 19th. Waterloo's next six games are against the West, starting this weekend against Dubuque and Sioux Falls.
