Stars Shine...The Lincoln Stars had a productive week earning five of a possible six points in the standings and have compiled a 5-1-1 record over their last seven games. Trailing 3-1 on Wednesday, defenseman Matt Prapavessis scored with just over five minutes to play in the third period and Garrett Peterson sent the game to overtime scoring with a minute remaining as the Stars had their goaltender pulled in favor of the extra attacker. Prapavessis completed the comeback with the overtime winner. The Stars equaled a season high in scoring during Friday's 8-4 win against Sioux City. Once again they had a huge third period, scoring six goals in the frame. Ryan Dzingel scored two in the period to complete his hat trick. Brent Tate (1g, 3a) and John McCarron (1g, 3a) each had four-point nights and defenseman Ben Oskroba scored his second goal in a span of three games. Goaltender Kevin Murdock has been in net for eight straight games and has made 36-or-more saves in each of the last six games.

No Cooling Ice.The Indiana Ice have maintained their reputation as the USHL's hottest team after picking up two more victories over the weekend. The ice scored 14 goals in the two victories, including a season best in the 8-3 win Saturday at Chicago. That victory also extended their road winning streak to eight games. Indiana is averaging 6.5 goals per game over their last four contests and leads the USHL with 125 goals this season. Peter Schneider scored the game-tying goal late in the third period on Friday and then added the overtime winner in the 6-5 victory against Waterloo. Daniil Tarasov had a huge weekend with six points (4g, 2a) and is riding a four-game point streak (7g, 5a). He recorded a hat trick on Saturday to become just the second USHL player this season to reach the 20-goal mark. USHL leading scorer Blake Coleman had a four-point game on Saturday (1g, 3a) to surpass the 50-point mark (16g, 35a). Defenseman Ryan Obuchowski scored his first career USHL goal on Saturday which proved to be the game-winner. Defenseman Nick Mattson has five assists over his last three games and is second overall in the USHL with a plus-21 rating.

The Makings of a Streak.The Sioux Falls Stampede earned three wins during the week to extend their win streak to a season best seven games before having that streak come to a halt on Saturday. During the streak, the Stampede outscored the opposition 23-10 and killed off 28 consecutive penalties. Seven different skaters recorded a game-winner during the win streak and 15 different players scored at least one goal. Dominic Zombo scored the winner with five minutes to play in Wednesday's 3-1 victory against Tri-City. Defenseman Marcus Perrier tallied the overtime winner in Friday's 3-2 victory at Youngstown. Both goals for Perrier this season have been overtime winners. Nolan Youngmun has scored two goals over his last three games and has an even-or-better plus/minus rating in six straight games.

Gimme Five.Team USA's Under-17 squad has hit their stride in the USHL winning five straight games. They ended the seven-game win streak for Sioux Falls on Saturday with a 3-2 win. Ryan Hartman tallied the game-winning goal for the second straight game. He has scored four goals over his last three games. Cameron Darcy also scored a goal, his fifth over his last seven USHL games. Goaltender Collin Olson earned his third straight win. The Under-17 squad has allowed 26-or-fewer shots on goal in four of the five wins.

A Pair Makes 20.The Dubuque Fighting Saints won consecutive games for the first time in 2011, ending a 1-4-2 stretch over their last seven games. Despite the rough patch, the Saints have remained on top of the Western Conference standings and are the first to reach 20 victories. They scored four goals in the third period of Friday's 5-2 win against Des Moines. Zemgus Girgensons had a three-point night (2g, 1a), including his third game-winning goal of the season. John Gaudreau dished out four assists. Trailing 3-0 heading into the third period on Saturday, Dubuque scored three goals in the final frame to send the game to overtime. Defenseman Luke Curadi started the comeback with his second goal of the season and Vinny Saponari and Joakim Ryan each scored in the final five minutes of play to even the score. After a scoreless overtime, Saponari and Gaudreau scored in the shootout while goaltender Matt Morris turned aside all four attempts by Lincoln to give Dubuque a 4-3 win.

All is Well at the Stable.The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders won a pair of home games during the week have earned a point in 13 straight games (11-0-2) at their home rink dubbed "The Stable". Jayson Megna had a three-point night (2g, 1a) in the 4-2 victory against Green Bay on Wednesday. He added two assists on Friday and then scored another goal on Saturday to extend his point streak to seven games (6g, 7a). Justin Kovacs had a hand in all four goals on Wednesday (1g, 3a) for the Riders. Forward Sam Warning has a goal in four straight games and now has 10 goals on the season.

Firing Range.USHL players have been peppering goalies all season, but a pair of forwards took it to a whole new level during the week. The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders fired 39 shots on goal in Wednesday's 4-2 win and 11 of those shots came off the stick of Jayson Megna. That total equaled a USHL season high, but that was short-lived as Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Vinny Saponari recorded 12 shots on Saturday. It was the most in the USHL since Bryce Aneloski totaled 12 shots for Cedar Rapids last season on October 24th. Megna now leads the USHL in shots on goal, taking over the lead from Omaha Lancers forward Seth Ambroz who is averaging nearly five shots per game.

Bonus Hockey.Four of the last five games for the Youngstown Phantoms have gone past regulation, including two overtime games for the club during the weekend. Cody Strang scored in regulation and added the overtime winner in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Waterloo. He has scored seven goals over his last eight games. Goaltender Greg Lewis started both weekend games and made a combined 73 saves, including a career high 44 saves in Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to Sioux Falls.

Notes.Goaltender Scott Diebold stopped all 36 shots he faced on Friday for the Tri-City Storm to a record a 2-0 shutout over Fargo. It was his third shutout of the season and gave the Storm their first ever victory in Fargo as they were 0-6-1 in seven previous attempts.Trailing 3-0 heading into the third period, the Green Bay Gamblers scored five goals in the final frame to earn a 5-3 win against conference rival Cedar Rapids on Saturday. Travis Lynch scored in the period to extend his goal streak to five games.John Siemer scored three goals over two weekend overtime losses for the Waterloo Black Hawks. Four of his five goals this season have come in the third period.Caleb Herbert scored a goal for the Sioux City Musketeers in their 4-3 overtime loss on Wednesday. It was his fourth straight game with a goal and fifth goal over his last six games.Chad Demers scored two goals on Saturday to help the Fargo Force snap a three-game home losing streak in the 4-1 win over Tri-City.Forward Nick D'Avolio netted his first USHL goal for the Chicago Steel on Saturday.Six different skaters tallied a goal for the Des Moines Buccaneers as they won their third straight game at home with a 6-3 win over Muskegon on Saturday. Dan DeSalvo netted the game-winner, his third goal over his last four games.
