Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Divjak Climbing Closer
Veteran USHL forward Patrick Divjak is up to 98 career points and enjoying one of his finest seasons in the league. Just two points from 100, Divjak has scored more goals this season (17) than in either of his two prior campaigns with Sioux Falls. He has appeared in every Black Hawks game so far during 2009-2010 and been a big contributor on the power play, with ten goals and seven assists in that special teams area.
Breaking Out of the Basement
In three games last week, the Black Hawks were successful during twelve of 13 penalty killing situations. Combined with strong shorthanded efforts since January, Waterloo has climbed from last on the penalty kill, up to 13th at 77.9%, not far from the USHL average of 81.6%. Waterloo had been last in penalty killing since their first game of the season when they allowed three goals in nine chances. In the opening five games of the season, Waterloo was only able to kill 20 of 35 opposing power plays, or 57.1%.
Offense Begins with Defense
Dan Sova and Zach Palmquist each picked up three assists last week. The helpers pushed them both among the USHL's top five defensemen in the category. Sova is tied for third with Anthony Bitetto of Indiana; each has 23. Palmquist is one back with 22. If either finishes the season in the top five, it would be the third consecutive season a Black Hawk has been among the assist leaders for defensemen.
Rolling Up the Results
The Hawks have won five consecutive games, the longest winning streak of the season for the club. The last time Waterloo won at least this many in a row was a seven game span from March 6-21, 2009. The Hawks will try to add to their streak and their 14-6-1 home record with two games at Young Arena this weekend.
