Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Sova Story

Dan Sovas career-best five-game point streak ended with a scoreless night in Green Bay Friday. During the successful run, the second-year defenseman accumulated three goals and five assists. Sova responded to his snapped streak with two assists Saturday. He is currently the Hawks eighth-leading scorer, with eleven points on the season, and is tied for 13th in scoring among all USHL defensemen.

Different Shot Differential

Opposing teams have taken an average of 2.6 more shots on goal per game than the Black Hawks so far this season. Thats almost exactly the opposite from last season, when Waterloo had 2.8 more chances a night than the team on the opposite bench. During the three recent seasons when the Hawks reached the Clark Cup finals 06-07 and 07-08), their shot differentials were +7.8, +7.6, and +8.9 respectively.

Barnes v. Barnes

Tyler Barnes numbers in 19 games are quickly approaching his totals from all of 2008-2009:

09-1019 GP11 G12 A23 Pts+1008-0955 GP9 G17 A26 Pts+9

The year-over-year improvement looks striking similar to Craig Smiths jump by the same point last season:

08-0919 GP12 G15 A27 pts+1207-0858 GP13 G10 A23 pts-3

Covering Short Distances

With nasty weather in the Midwest this week, the Hawks and their opponents are probably glad to be staying close to home this weekend. Next weeks total road trip will cover 1,121 miles.
