Three Games, Five Days

Waterloo opens the first of two consecutive three-game weeks on Tuesday at Mystique Ice Center against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 7:05 p.m. The Hawks are 2-4-0 versus the Saints this season; no other opponent has defeated Waterloo more than twice in 2019/20. Dubuque won the most recent meeting, 3-2 at Young Arena February 11th. Friday and Saturday, Waterloo hosts the Sioux Falls Stampede (7:05 p.m. both nights). Sioux Falls has also caused difficulties for the Hawks; during a trip to South Dakota six weeks ago, the Stampede edged Waterloo 3-2 in overtime and 5-4 in regulation.

Midweek Results

Games on March 11th (at Dubuque) and March 17th (versus Des Moines) are Waterloo's final non-weekend games of the regular season. So far in 2019/20, the Hawks have played five games that weren't on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. During those prior matchups, Waterloo is 3-2-0, including a February 11th 3-2 loss versus the Fighting Saints. Wednesday's game is the only one that the Hawks will play in a hostile building. The rescheduled game was originally slated for January 17th but had to be postponed due to poor weather.

One Big Night

Joe Cassetti recorded a career-high seven points (two goals, five assists) in Waterloo's 8-2 win against the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday. Previously, Cassetti's most productive effort was a hat trick against the Madison Capitols on New Year's Eve. Only one other player has had more than five points in a USHL game this season: teammate Griffin Ness notched six on January 24th against the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

A Half Dozen Goose Eggs

Gabriel Carriere made 18 saves on Friday during a 4-0 shutout of the Musketeers. It was Carriere's second shutout of the season and the sixth by the Black Hawks in 2019/20. No USHL club currently has more this winter, and the Hawks have now equaled their total from 2018/19. Waterloo has never recorded more than six shutouts in one USHL regular season.

Weekend Recap

The Black Hawks opened the new month by putting 56 shots on goal against the Sioux City Musketeers last Friday during a 4-0 road win. The only time this season that a team has sent more pucks on net in one game was when Waterloo had 57 against the Madison Capitols on New Year's Eve. Four different Black Hawks scored Friday. In a Saturday rematch, Wyatt Schingoethe recorded a hat trick and Joe Cassetti had seven points during an 8-2 result. It was the second-highest scoring night of the season for Waterloo, surpassed only by a 9-1 win against the Des Moines Buccaneers on October 19th.
