Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
The Muskegon Lumberjacks are back home this Friday and Saturday, with a great opportunity to earn much needed points in the tight race for a playoff spot.
The Jacks will host the Sioux City Musketeers at Mercy Health Arena both nights at 7:05 p.m., and will try to earn four crucial points in the standings against the last place team in the Western Conference.
Muskegon, now 21-23-5, is currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, which is the final playoff spot, four points ahead of seventh-place Cedar Rapids.
On paper, Sioux City would seem primed for a two-night beating. The Musketeers have been on a lengthy cold streak, posting a 1-8-1 record in their last 10 games.
But the Lumberjacks will have to contain Sioux City's leading scorer, Sam Stange, who has 24 goals this season. They will also have to keep an eye on their former teammate, A.J. Hodges, who has piled up 12 points in the 14 games he has played since being traded to Sioux City from Muskegon.
The Jacks will counter with several hot players of their own, including forward Rhett Pitlick, who has three goals and a pair of assists in the last four games. Christophe Fillion has also been heating up for the Jacks, with six points in his last seven games.
One of Muskegon's top goal scorers, Cameron Berg, hit a milestone last Saturday at Tri-City, netting his 20th goal of the season in the Lumberjacks' 4-3 loss.
Dylan Wendt has also continued to be a consistent point producer, chipping in 11 in his last 10 games, and 34 on the season.
Muskegon will need role players to step up if they want to keep pushing towards the playoffs.
Last weekend Tanner Edwards got hot, getting a goal and an assist in the Jacks' 4-1 win over Tri-City on Friday night, and adding an assist on Saturday.
Alex Konovolov shook off a dry spell last weekend. The future Princeton University skater broke a 10-game pointless streak with a goal on Friday. The tally was his fifth of the season.
Friday will be the annual Jacks Fight Cancer Night at Mercy Health Arena, honoring those who have battled the disease.
Saturday's contest against the Musketeers will feature some fun entertainment from the Zooperstars, a crew of zany mascots who dance in rhythm and put on a fun show for fans.
