Nothing But the Best

For the first time this season, the Black Hawks play twice on home ice during the same weekend. Friday, the Hawks host the Bloomington Thunder, owners of the United States Hockey League's longest point streak with a win or overtime loss in each of their last six games. Waterloo edged Bloomington, 4-2, in central Illinois on opening night. The Hawks have not yet faced Saturday's opponent, the Lincoln Stars, the only team in the league currently with ten wins. The Stars feature USHL scoring leader Ludvig Hoff, who has 17 points.

Terao On Top

After being sidelined for two late October games in Kearney, Nebraska, forward Yuri Terao returned without missing a beat. He recorded an assist during a 4-1 win against the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday. Then as Waterloo outdistanced the Omaha Lancers, 5-1 Saturday, Terao contributed two goals and three total points. The first-year Black Hawk now paces the team with 11 points (four goals, seven assists). He has notched at least one goal or assist in each of his last five appearances.

Drawn Together

The Black Hawks are among the USHL's best teams in terms of both scoring offense and scoring defense. When it comes to putting the puck in the net, Waterloo's 3.42 goals-per-game pace ranks fourth, just .08 behind the league-leading Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. With 2.67 goals-against per night, the Hawks are tied for second with the Omaha Lancers and just .17 behind the RoughRiders. Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, the Lincoln Stars, and the Madison Capitols are each among the top five teams in both categories.

Nifty Fifty

Forward Liam Pecararo bagged his 50th USHL regular season assist on Saturday in Waterloo's win versus the Omaha Lancers. He is the 45th Black Hawk to reach that threshold during the team's junior era. The first assist to his credit came on a goal by Vince Hinostroza, who made his NHL debut earlier this season with the Chicago Blackhawks. In total, 16 different Waterloo skaters have been on the receiving end of a Pecararo assist. His favorite targets have been Patrick Russell (13) and Peter Krieger (12), combining to represent half of the total.

Weekly Recap

USHL Goaltender of the Week Cale Morris was the foundation for two Black Hawks wins, beginning with a 28-save performance during a 4-1 road victory against the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday. Marshall Moise scored twice for the Hawks. Saturday, Morris made 16 stops, Michael Davies contributed a goal and three assists, and the Black Hawks upended the Omaha Lancers, 5-1. The consecutive wins moved Waterloo to, then above, the .500 mark for the season.
