Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Change of Venue

The Sioux Falls Stampede are tied for second in the USHL Western Conference, while the Green Bay Gamblers rank second in the East. Both clubs are on the Waterloo Black Hawks' schedule this weekend. Waterloo has met Sioux Falls and Green Bay once apiece this season. The earlier game against the Stampede was on the road, while the Hawks' hosted the Gamblers, but the locations will be reversed for both of this weekend's rematches. Waterloo edged Green Bay 4-3 in overtime on October 18th before topping Sioux Falls 6-2 on the 25th. The Hawks have earned four of their victories at Young Arena and four more on the road this season.

Horton Springs Back Into Lineup

Jake Horton looked right at home Saturday as he took the ice for the first time since October 18th. Horton recorded a goal and an assist against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The shorthanded goal was the first of its kind by a Black Hawk this season; Horton notched two shorties last season. It was also the Harvard recruit's second game-winner of the campaign; he is the first Waterloo player with more than one.

Brown County-Bound

Saturday's Black Hawks game at Green Bay will be played at Brown County Arena rather than the Gamblers' regular rink, the Resch Center. The Hawks and Gamblers met for the first time ever at Brown County Arena on October 2, 1994, and the facility dates back to the era of the original Waterloo senior squads when it was home to the Green Bay Bobcats. Waterloo's most recent appearance at Brown County Arena was a 5-1 victory during a throwback game on November 4, 2006. Craig Smith led the Hawks with a goal and an assist that night.

Israelsson In the Groove

Mathias Israelsson improved to 2-2-0 this season with a 33-save performance versus the Dubuque Fighting Saints Saturday. The effort included the second-most stops by a Waterloo goaltender this season. It also extended a stretch of individual success by Black Hawks goalies against Dubuque. Since the Saints reentered the league in 2010, Waterloo has now used eight different goaltenders against them. All eight have earned at least one victory in the head-to-head series.

Weekly Recap

The Black Hawks slipped behind the Tri-City Storm last Wednesday and could not recover, falling 4-2 on the road. Alec McCrea and Brandon Salerno were responsible for the Waterloo scores. However the Hawks finished Saturday's game against Dubuque on the top side of the same count. Jake Horton and Brandon Montour each delivered two points during the win. They, along with Peter Krieger and Mark Friedman all have notched ten points or more for Waterloo in 2013/14.
