BOSTON - On Thursday, June 16, FIFA will make its highly anticipated announcement of the cities and venues selected to host the FIFA World Cup 2026TM, the first men's World Cup contended in North America since 1994. Boston is among the 22 finalists who will learn their fate in a live national broadcast event from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. ET. Should Boston be selected as a host city for FIFA World Cup 2026 TM, matches would be played at Gillette Stadium.
Following FIFA's live broadcast on Thursday, representatives from Boston Soccer 2026 will be available for interviews upon request: Martha J. Sheridan, President & CEO of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB), and Brian Bilello, President of Boston Soccer 2026 (Boston's local World Cup organizing committee) and the New England Revolution. In addition, FIFA will hold a press conference in New York City scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET, which will be livestreamed on FIFA.com.
Boston, one of 22 North American cities across Canada, Mexico, and the United States in contention to host FIFA World Cup 2026TM matches, boasts a rich history of international soccer including three previous editions of soccer's premier global tournament. Foxborough was home to the 1994 FIFA Men's World Cup, including a historic Quarterfinal match between Spain and Italy, before also hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1999 and 2003.
