May 4, 2013 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Washington Spirit News Release
GERMANTOWN, Md. (May 4, 2013) -- The Washington Spirit are proud to announce we have completely sold out for today's game against the Portland Thorns.
Sales and other ticket allocations for today's game have exceeded 5,000. With approximately 4,300 of those across two levels of General Admission categories, allowing the team to oversell in anticipation of some ticket holding fans not showing for the games. A large concourse area and grass hill on the south end of the stadium can accommodate over 1,500 "standing room only" fans, with room for a few hundred 21 and over fans in the "Beer Garden".

With strong ticket sales from the beginning of the season, including over 1,100 season tickets, the Spirit drew 4,695 in our opening game against the Western New York Flash, then 3,102 fans last weekend hosting Sky Blue FC. With next week's game against the Boston Breakers on May 11 also selling strong, the team is off to a flying start towards its targeted goal of 3,000 per game believed needed to reach long term financial sustainability.
With only a June 15 rematch set against Western New York Flash between next weekend's game and the July 3 inaugural trip to Maryland by FC Kansas City, the Spirit expects both of those game to also be strongly attended. Leaving five games in July and August to round out their 11-game NWSL season, with the biggest draw expected to be the only visit by Seattle Reign FC and U.S. National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo on August 10.
