Washington Spirit News Release

BOYDS, MD- The Washington Spirit has signed midfielder Tori Huster to a new contract for the 2017 NWSL season. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Huster, an original Spirit member, started 19 regular season matches in 2016 and played in both postseason matches. She played the most minutes in 2016 of any player on the team, helping to lead the squad to its first ever appearance in the NWSL Championship. The fan favorite also contributed a goal and an assist, both against Sky Blue FC.

"Tori was an integral part of our midfield during our historically successful season in 2016," said general manager and head coach Jim Gabarra. "It was rewarding for us all to see her consistently high level of play up through the NWSL Championship match. We're very happy she signed a new contract and look forward to continuing to work together."

Huster was the Spirit's second pick in the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft. The Ohio native has spent all four seasons of the NWSL with the Spirit and holds the record for most all-time appearances for the team with 83. The former Florida State University standout also holds the team records for starts (78) and minutes played (7,048). In addition to her strong defensive presence, she has contributed three goals and two assists in her NWSL career.

The 27-year-old was called up to the senior U.S. Women's National Team for matches in France and England in February 2015. Huster also saw time with the U-23 U.S. Women's National Team, including participating in the Four Nations Tournament in England in 2010 and the Three Nations Tournament in Sweden in 2011.
