Washington Spirit Make Blockbuster Trade, Draft Ashley Sanchez Fourth Overall in 2020 NWSL Draft

BALTIMORE - The Washington Spirit have acquired the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft in a trade with Sky Blue FC.

The Washington Spirit have also received the number 4 and 8 picks in the second round of the 2020 draft, as well as a first-round pick in the 2021 Draft. The Spirit will be sending a Player To Be Named Later to Sky Blue.

The Spirit then selected Ashley Sanchez with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft.

Sanchez, a UCLA alum, played in 24 games for the Bruins in 2019, making 23 starts. In her 1,807 minutes of game time, Sanchez scored seven times and earned 15 assists. Over her three year career with UCLA, Sanchez scored 23 goals and created 42 assists.

Sanchez was selected with the fourth overall pick in the draft, which was acquired by the Spirit from Sky Blue FC in exchange for a player to be named later. The Spirit also received the number 4 and 8 picks in the second round of 2020 as well as a first-round pick in the 2021 draft.
