Washington Spirit News Release
Leesburg, Va. - The Washington Spirit and Women and Girls in Soccer (WAGS) are proud to announce the continuation of their partnership that will run through the end of 2021. WAGS returns on the kit and is the Official Sponsor of the Washington Spirit preseason.
Gretchen Hamm, Chief Growth Officer for the Spirit, said this about the partnership renewal, "The fourth year of commitment from Women and Girls in Soccer is such a testament to the strength of their organization. We are beyond grateful for their ongoing support of our players."
WAGS originally supported the Washington Spirit in 2013 - the year the team was founded for the inaugural NWSL season. They were the first organization to support the Spirit, and then again were the first organization to renew their support when Steve Baldwin took over in 2019. Through this partnership, WAGS has remained committed to bringing an opportunity for athletes to have a professional option in the NWSL.
WAGS offers six programs just for girls and women in soccer that promote confidence, strength, character, and leadership in a variety of ways. These programs include:
Soccer Hall of Fame Award
Women's Soccer Award of Excellence
College Scholarships
Referee Education and Support
Coaching Education
Worldwide Outreach
WAGS also hosts the Rael Vodicka Soccer Tournament, held annually in October. This signature event is the singular funding source to support their programs. To learn more, head to www.wagstournament.com.
Head Coach Richie Burke will be featured in a content series on the Pathway To Pro. Exploring conversations with college coaches, administrators and leaders throughout soccer, as well as professional players and their road to professional soccer.
