Washington Mystics to Pick First in 2022 WNBA Draft

WASHIGNTON, D.C. - The Washington Mystics will have the first overall selection in the 2022 WNBA Draft after jumping up two spots in the WNBA Draft Lottery this afternoon. The Mystics entered the lottery with the third-best odds to win. This marked the first time since 2017 Washington has been in the WNBA Lottery.
"This is a great day for the Mystics", said General Manager and Head Coach Mike Thibault. "It's been a tough past two years with all of our injuries and the absences in the bubble year. This gives us several options as to what we want to do going forward and helps widen our window to compete for championships. We look forward to the next several months of preparation - a great way to begin the Mystics 25th Anniversary season."
The Mystics' 2022 lottery results mark the first time in franchise history the team has won the WNBA Draft Lottery. The WNBA Draft Lottery process began in advance of the 2002 WNBA Draft. Today's results will mark the second time Washington will select the first overall pick after the team selected Chamique Holdsclaw first overall in the 1999 WNBA Draft.
The 2022 WNBA season marks the 25th Anniversary for the Washington Mystics. Chartered in 1997, the Mystics are one of the first WNBA expansion franchises to be established and the longest tenured continuously operating women's professional sports team in Washington, D.C.
The 25th anniversary season will include celebration of past players, highlights of top moments in franchise history, and recognition of a loyal fan base. Plans surrounding the 25th anniversary season including a logo, along with other anniversary festivities will be announced at a later date.
