
Washington Ends Rochester's Season

(Everett, Washington)... The Washington Stealth ended the season for the Rochester Knighthawks tonight with a 14-9 win at The Comcast Arena at Everett. Rochester (7-9) needed a victory to advance to the 2010 Champion's Cup Playoffs. With the Knighthawks loss, the Boston Blazers grabbed the final spot in the East Division playoffs. With the victory, Washington (11-5) earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
John Grant Jr. led the Knighthawks with six goals, while Craig Points (1+2) and Kevin Fines (2+1) added three points each. Aaron Bold replaced Rochester starter Pat O'Toole after the Stealth grabbed a 5-0 lead at 11:58 of the first.
Second-year Stealth forward Rhys Dutch led the Stealth with six goals and three assists. Lewis Ratcliff also had a big night with one goal and seven assists. Goalie Tyler Richards has stopped 42 Rochester shots. The Washington special teams also killed the Knighthawks, converting six of eight opportunities and limiting Rochester to one goal on seven chances.
Dutch was unstoppable in the first quarter as he broke open a 1-0 game with four straight in just over 10 minutes. He added his fifth of the contest at 7:41 of the second to make it 7-0. Fines netted the first Knighthawks goal at 8:50. Tom Johnson scored his eighth of the season at 10:08 to make it 8-1 after two quarters.
In the third, Jeff Zywicki added his second of the night to make it 9-1 and Dutch completed the sock trick with his sixth of the contest. Grant netted two straight late in the third quarter to knock the deficit down to seven at 10-3. He added his third of the quarter at 13:55 on the power play to cut the lead to 11-4. Paul Rabil notched a shorthanded goal prior to the Grant marker.
Point scored his career-best 31st of the season at 4:44 of the fourth from Gary Gait and Shawn Williams (0+2) to make it 12-6. After Johnson's second of the night, Grant scored his fourth of the game at the six-minute mark to cut the lead to 13-7. Grant added two more goals to give the K-Hawks nine goals on the evening. Washington's Luke Wiles scored his first of the night for the Stealth's 14th of the contest.
The 2010 NLL Playoffs will begin the weekend of April 30th to May 2nd and will take place over three consecutive weekends. The winners advance to the Eastern and Western Divisional Finals the weekend of May 7th to 9th. The 2010 NLL Championship Game will be played the weekend of May 14th to 16th.
