Warthogs sweep Potomac

Potomac, VA – The Winston-Salem Warthogs (14-8) won their third game in a row and garnered a three game sweep over the Potomac Cannons in a 6-3 win Wednesday. Kris Honel earned his third win for the Warthogs after giving up one run on five hits in six innings. Kris McWhirter earned his first save for the Warthogs in three innings of work. Nick Brannon gave up four runs in the seventh and was pinned with his second loss.

The Warthogs scored a run in the first to go up 1-0. The Warthogs got three hits and Mike Morse scored on an RBI single by Wally Rosa. The Cannons tied the game in the sixth when Brian Petterson singled and scored on William Bergolla's RBI double.

In the seventh the Warthogs put the game away. With one out Eric Storey and Wally Rosa singled. Both would scored on a Ruddy Yan single that put the hogs up 3-1. Winston-Salem would add two more run in the inning and one in the ninth for insurance. The Cannons scored two runs, on in the eighth and one in the ninth.

On the night, Yan, Reed and Wally Rosa had three hits for the Hogs. Daylan Holt and Mike Morse had two hits in the 16 hit attack for Winston-Salem.

The Warthogs will begin a four game home stand with Wilmington on Thursday night at 7:15pm. LHP Ryan Wing (3-0, 0.38) will toss for the Warthogs. The Blue Rocks will throw LHP Chris Tierney (1-2, 4.74). All the play by play will be heard on 600/1200am WSJS.
