Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem Warthogs (1-2) rallied late, but it was not enough to overcome an early deficit, as they fall to the Kinston Indians (2-1) 8 - 6 in the final game of the three-game series at Ernie Shore Field.

Trevor Crowe ignited the Indians offense with a solo home run to right field in the first inning. The Warthogs answered when Chris Kelly led off the second inning with a single and came around to score on a RBI groundout by Adam Ricks. Kinston took the lead right back in the top of the third by adding two runs to make the score 3 - 1.

After scoring another run in the fourth, Kinston locked up the game with four runs in the sixth inning to make it 8 - 1. After getting the first two outs in the inning, Warthogs reliever John Hurd allowed the next six Indians batters to reach base with the conclusion of the scoring occurring on a two run double by Brian Finegan.

The Warthogs fought back with one run in the sixth and two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings to cut the lead to 8 - 6. In the ninth, with Evan Tartaglia on base after an infield single, Kinston reliever T.J. Burton struck out the final two Warthogs batters to preserve the win. Kinston start Jensen Lewis (1-0) came away with the win after going five innings, not allowing an earned run and giving up only three hits. Warthogs starting pitcher Carlos Torres (0-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs in four innings of work.

The Warthogs have an off day on Sunday, April 9th, but return to Ernie Shore Field as they welcome in the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for a four-game series that begins on Monday at 7 PM.
