Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
HEEMSKERK POSTS SHUTOUT AGAINST FORMER TEAM
The Warriors stretched their winning streak to four in a row Saturday night in the Crushed Can with the help of goalie Thomas Heemskerk in his shut out performance against his former team. Quinton Howden scored the first goal of the evening on the power play, half way through the second period. Antonin Honejsek would find the back of Luke Siemens net only minutes later. Matt Grant would score his second career goal with in seconds on the power play. One final goal from Quinton Howden from Cody Beach and Mackenzie Royer in the third would make it a 40 score and another Warrior win at home. Thomas Heemskerk turned away all 25 shots and was named the games first star. The tribe also donned their new third jerseys Saturday night.
GOALS GALORE IN REGINA
The Moose Jaw Warriors scored... and scored.... and scored Friday night in Regina. Captain Edwards fired the Warriors first, on a short handed break away. Antonin Honejsek scored the second of the night half way through the first. Carter Ashton got the Pats on the board and allowed for teddy bears to rain on to the ice. First period score: 21. Second period, Edwards banked his second of the night followed by a Jordan Wyton Marker to make it 41. At 15:20, former Warrior Thomas Frazee snuck one past Heemskerk on the power play. 42 Moose Jaw. In a series of events, a broken stick managed to get tangled into the play, allowing for a Jordan Weal penalty shot. He made no mistake; 43 Moose Jaw. Nearly as soon as the face off puck was dropped, Tony Honejsek skated into the Pats zone and with a nice move, gave the Warriors another two goal lead. 53 Moose Jaw to end the second. Final period, Dylan Hood scored not even a minute into the final twenty minutes. Trent Ouellette brought the Pats within two at 7:39. 64 Moose Jaw.... Spencer Edwards added his third of the night; making it his first hat trick of the season and a 74 Moose Jaw lead. Thomas Frazee added another at 14:10; followed by Tony Honejsek getting his own hat trick. 85 Moose Jaw. One last Pat's goal from Garrett Mitchell at 17:54 would not be enough. AJ Johnson would put one more in for a final score of 96 Moose Jaw.
WARRIORS LOOK FOR FOUR MORE POINTS ON THE ROAD THIS WEEK
The tribe will visit both the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Medicine Hat Tigers to kick off the week. The Warriors last meeting with Lethbridge was in November where they shut out the Hurricanes 30. They will visit Lethbridge Tuesday night. Wednesday the tribe will make the trek to Medicine Hat. The Warriors are 02 against the Tigers this season, falling 32 and 63. The Tigers are just three points ahead of Moose Jaw in the Eastern Conference.
WARRIOR TID BITS
Thomas Heemskerk took home the Zeke's Player of the Month award for November
Tony Honesjek had the most points in the WHL Friday night with 5. (Notching a hat trick and 2 assists).
Quinton Howden leaves this weekend for World Junior Camp in Ontario.
CAPTAINS CARE KICKS OFF
For a child spending days in the hospital, it can be scary, not very fun and hard on the parents. The Warriors understand how tough hospital visits can be and want to help brighten a sick kid's day while spending time in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.
Thanks to this year's Captain Spencer Edwards' passion for kids and a goal to bring the program to the fore front, sick kids in Moose Jaw will be visited by Spencer throughout the 10/11 hockey season.
Spencer wants the "Captain's Care" program to not only be something he does this season, but a program that will continue on for years to come and be passed on from Captain to Captain. Last Tuesday morning, Spencer Edwards visited the paediatrics' wing of the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. The patients ranged from as young as three to teenagers. One special little girl was leaving only moments after Spencer's visit to be air lifted to Saskatoon. Others were just in for a few days, but were overjoyed to have Spencer Edwards stop to chat and sign autographs.
Spencer played a couple games of gofish with one lucky gal, who is recovering from surgery. She was quite excited to beat Spencer in both rounds of the card game. Guests in the paed's room are given Warriors tickets to use once they are feeling all better courtesy of our local McDonald's restaurant.
The Warriors/McDonalds room in the paed's ward is always in use and by the sounds of things is the most popular room to be in. At the end of the hall in the wing, a very special Warriors Christmas tree sits. YARA Belle Plaine was kind enough to donate it to the hospital after bidding on it at Festival of Trees.
