Santa Cruz Warriors News Release

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Austin Spurs, 100-91, in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals at Kaiser Permanente Arena Sunday night. With the best-of-three series tied at 1-1, tomorrow night's Game 3 will decide if Santa Cruz will advance to the D-League Finals.

Santa Cruz was paced by Ognjen Kuzmic, on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, who finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, and 2 steals. Mychel Thompson logged 20 points, while Aaron Craft finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and a team-high of 6 assists.

The Spurs received a solid performance from Jarell Eddie who scored 35 points to go with 8 rebounds. Jonathan Simmons added 22 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals for Austin.

Santa Cruz would race ahead in the first quarter to lead by as many as 12 points, and would begin the second frame with a 7 point edge. Austin battled back in the second period, outscoring Santa Cruz 36-23 to enter break with a six-point edge.

The Spurs would extend their distance from the Warriors in the third quarter, shooting 63% from beyond the arc to lead by as many as 15 points. Austin pushed the margin to 19 early in the fourth period before the Warriors rallied back to cut their deficit to single-digits. The Warriors outscored the Spurs 25-19, with Dominique Sutton coming alive to score 10 of his 12 points in the final frame. Though 5 different Warriors scored late in the game, their late fourth quarter rally was not enough to eclipse the Austin lead.

The Santa Cruz Warriors will host the Austin Spurs again tomorrow night in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals at 7p.m. PST. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, or catch the game on ESPNU.
