Warriors Drop Game 1 of NBA D-League Finals to Fort Wayne

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 102-92 on Thursday night in Game 1 of the NBA D-League Finals.

Santa Cruz was paced by Cameron Jones, who scored 24 points, grabbed five rebounds and recorded three steals. Lance Goulbourne posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards, while Seth Curry scored 18 points and had three steals. Mychel Thompson added 13 points off the bench, while Joe Alexander scored 11.

Fort Wayne was led by Tony Mitchell, who scored a game-high 25 points off the bench. Ron Howard scored 23 points and dished out a game-high eight assists, while Matt Bouldin chipped in with 13 points. Sadiel Rojas recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors scored six straight points to start the game, but the Mad Ants responded and built a 13-point lead in the first quarter. Santa Cruz whittled the deficit down to single-digits to end the frame, and the two teams traded the lead six times in the second quarter. Fort Wayne went on an 11-3 run to take an eight-point advantage into intermission, but Santa Cruz went on a 13-4 run late in the third quarter to pull within one point to start the fourth. With the game tied at 82 apiece with 7:37 remaining, the Mad Ants went on a 9-0 run, but the Warriors immediately cut the deficit to one with an 8-0 run of their own. In the final two minutes, the Mad Ants outscored the Warriors 11-2 to seal the victory.

Santa Cruz committed fewer turnovers (13-21), scored more points in the paint (48-44) and had more steals (10-6). Fort Wayne held the edge on field goal percentage (43.7%-34.8%), rebounds (60-44), assists (24-16) and blocks (9-3).

The Santa Cruz Warriors travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for Game 2 of the three-game Finals series, which tips off on Saturday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
