Columbus Wardogs News Release

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Wardogs are on the verge of setting a franchise mark for the most season tickets sold. The arena football team has sold 1,045 season tickets with over a month to go before the team's first regular season home game. The Wardogs open the 2004 home season on April 17 against Cape Fear.

The current number matches what the team sold last year and is only 165 short of the team's record of 1,210 season tickets from the 2001 inaugural season. Only 15 front row seats remain available.

"More and more companies are finding that season tickets are an attractive and affordable perk for employees," said Wardogs president and general manager Mike Sammond who noted that 207 local businesses have purchased season tickets for the upcoming season.

"We've also added the March 28 international preseason game against Australia to our season ticket package at no cost, so fans are now getting a 9th game as part of the package."

"There's also growing excitement this will be the season the Wardogs turn the corner and make a playoff run," said Sammond. He cited the return of head coach John Fourcade and his ability to sign several players that were with him two seasons ago when Florida reached the league championship game.

"In addition, the weekly AFL games televised on NBC have boosted the awareness of arena football, making this the country's fastest growing sport," said Sammond. The growing number of NFL owners and celebrities owning and running AFL teams now includes Jerry Jones (Dallas), Tom Benson (New Orleans), John Elway (Denver) and Jon Bon Jovi (Philadelphia).

Wardogs season tickets begin at $64 and are available by calling (706) 653-7789 or logging on to columbuswardogs.com.
